“Ubizo - like Ladysmith Black Mambazo with muscles. A treat!” Jack Massarik, London Evening Standard

Alan Skidmore was one of the first musicians to visit South Africa after the end of apartheid and quite by chance met Amampondo – Nelson Mandela’s favourite group in the studios of SATV. They jammed together and the rapport and respect were instantaneous. Alan realised one ambition in 1999 when he recorded an album - The Call - with them in Cape Town. In 2002 they recorded material for Alan Skidmore’s Ubizo to be released by Provocateur Records later this year and were the headline opening concert at the 2002 Cork Jazz Festival. In the autumn of 2003 Ubizo will tour the UK under the auspices of the Arts Council for England. Watch the site for full details as the tour dates and venues are confirmed.
